On August 16 and 17, the 2013 China Health Forum was held in Beijing National Conference Center by National Health and Family Planning Commission, State Food and Drug Administration, and State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine. The 16th China Hospital Forum and the 22th China HOSPEQ 2013 were also held during the same period at the same site. Health ministers, medical researchers and experts from over 51 countries gathered to discuss the cooperation in health between China and Africa and global health development under new circumstances.
The main part of this forum was the Sino-African Ministerial Health Development Workshop, which focused on the New Key Areas in Sino-African Health Cooperation Under New Circumstances on August 16. Focused on this theme, the forum on August 17 targeted on the challenges facing both China and Africa, shared practice and experience, reached consensus and advocated the idea of "safeguarding health through various policies and realizing sustainable development". The forum focused on the reform of medical and health system, global health human resources training, appropriate technology, prevention and control of chronic diseases, Sino-African and Global cooperation, and finding and cultivating young leaders in health industry.
During the forum, Chen Zhu, Vice Chairman of the National People's Congress Standing Committee, gave the speech titled Safeguarding Health Through Various Policies. Yangtze River Pharmaceutical Group's Chairman Xu Jingren also delivered a passionate speech, which expressed Yangtze River Pharmaceutical Group's willingness to work with guests present, carry out the state's strategies on independent innovation, come up with better and safer new products, achieve the win-win results and realize the innovative development.
China and Africa had a time-honored tradition of cooperation which produced bountiful results, setting a good example of south-south cooperation. This year is the opening year of the Fifth Ministerial Conference of Sino-African Forum – Beijing Action Plan (2013-2015). This forum has built a platform for the dialogue involving senior government officials, health experts, medical industry, scholars and opinion leaders. This would further deepen the Sino-African cooperation on health and achieving win-win results.
