On the afternoon of March 5, in the west room of the People's Hall, flowers were blooming and colorful lanterns were lighted. President Hu Jingtaodiscussed Government Working Report with Jiangsu representatives. Succeeding the 17^th CPC National Congress and the 1^st, 2^nd and 3^rd meeting of The11^th Congress, Hu Jintao gathered with Jiangsu representatives again and discussed state affairs.
Talking about achievements, plans and proposals, representatives expressed their own views in an enthusiastic atmosphere, Hu Jintao listened to them and also communicated with them.
General Secretary Hu Jintao placed great hopes on the development of Jiangsu. After listening to the speech of 12 representatives, he recognized the remarkable achievements in the reform and opening up and modernization in the past year and expressed his expectation on Jiangsu.
"Jiangsu as a developed coastal province, should seize the important opportunity of integrated development of Yangtze River Delta on the occasion where Jiangsu coastal development was included national strategy" he said,"lead the country by accelerating the transformation of economic development mode, and cultivate new strategic advantage in the long-term development."
"Jiangsu adopts the basic strategy of developing the province through science, education and talents, and the core strategy of innovation drive. This is a good move and should be put into practice."
"Jiangsu has advantageous natural conditions, strong technological foundation and high level of intensive farming. The industry well nurtures the agriculture. Jiangsu should give full play to those advantages, accelerate the transformation of agricultural development mode, and strive to first realize agricultural modernization."
"Jiangsu is a cultural province. I expect that you can give full play to the role of culture in educating people, guiding society and promoting development."
"Jiangsu proposes to do ten practical things centering on safeguarding and improving the people's livelihood. The key point is to accelerate the construction of life-long education system, employment service system, social insurance system, medical insurance system and housing insurance system, duly deal with the interests which are problems most concerned about and most practical, and help extensive people share the achievements of the reform and opening up…"
After the discussion, Hu Jintao walked to the representatives, shook hands with them and talked with them.
Time passed quickly, but the representatives still surrounded the General Secretary and were unwilling to part. On the way to return from the People's Hall, the representatives continued the discussion moments ago, chewed and extended the earnest wishes of General Secretary.
The president also said:"I believe that under the guidance of Jiangsu provincial party committee and provincial government, cadres and masses will be united to carry forward the cause and forge ahead into the future. Jiangsu will create a new situation in scientific development on a new starting point. Jiangsu people will certainly live a better life."
