The Ceremony of China Medical Science and Technology Award (2009) Was Held at Shanghai

The grand ceremony of science and technology sparkled at Pujiang. China’s top award in the medical and sanitary industry——the Ceremony of China Medical Science and Technology Award (2009) was grandly held at Shanghai International Conference Center on January 24. Yu Zhengsheng, member of the Political Bureau of CPC Central Committee and Secretary of the CPC Shanghai Municipal Committee, and Sang Guowei, Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress presented the awards to the representatives of the prize winners.
Chen Zhu, Minister of the National Ministry of Health (MOH), attended the award presentation and delivered a speech. He congratulated the units and individuals who won the China Medical Science and Technology Award, and paid high tributes to the majority workers engaged in the medical science and technology. Zhong Nanshan, President of Chinese Medical Association and deputy director member of the Chinese Medical Science and Technology Prize Committee, mentioned in the speech that China Medical Science and Technology Award featured two characteristics for this year: firstly, the award covered a wider area by expanding from such fields involving the basic medicine, clinical medicine, pharmacy and TCM to the health management field and the science popularization field which also played an important role in the medical prevention affairs; secondly, the award could better reflect the aim of serving the production practice and the medical quality improvement. It used to emphasize the publication of high-level papers in medical magazines, while the majority of medical achievement awards this year had brought sound social benefits.
Liu Qian, Vice-Minister of MOH, Cao Jianlin, Vice-Minister of Ministry of Science and Technology, Yin Yicui, Deputy Secretary of the CPC Shanghai Municipal Committee, Ding Xuexiang, General Secretary of the CPC Shanghai Municipal Committee, Shen Xiaoming, Vice Mayor, etc. also attended the award presentation and presented the prize.
Two hundred and thirty-five scientific research achievements in total were applied for the China Medical Science and Technology Award (2009) with finally 83 thereof awarded. Among them, seven scientific research achievements such as “Research on the Molecular Mechanism of Cells and Organ Senescence and the Establishment and Application of Individualized Aging Evaluation” by 301 Hospital were awarded the first prize; 26 research achievements such as “Multi-target Function and Mechanism Analysis of Ginsenoside Rg 1” were awarded the second prize; 47 research achievements such as “The Establishment of Technical System for Accurately Monitoring and Effectively Blocking the Pathological and Carcinomatous Changes before the Gastric Cancer” were awarded the third prize. As different from the previous years, the China Medical Science and Technology Award (2009) took the initiative to award the health management project and medical science popularization project. These awarded projects have represented the current scientific innovation level of China’s medical and health industry, and demonstrated our innovation abilities in the medical field.
As established in 2001 upon approval by Ministry of Health and Ministry of Science and Technology, China Medical Science and Technology Award has been exclusively supported by YRPG in the past nine years. This award aimed at providing incentives to those with outstanding contributions to medicine so as to promote the innovations and development of Chinese medical science and technology. The award presentation ceremony, for the first time, moved from Beijing to Shanghai where Chinese Medical Association was founded 95 years ago. It aimed to make use of Shanghai’s dominance in the field of Chinese medicine to further expand the influence of high-tech medical technological achievements, accelerate the popularization and application of innovative medical technologies so that more patients would benefit from the curative effects brought by the medical advance as soon as possible.
President Xu Jingren delivered an enthusiastic speech at the awarding ceremony. He said that YRPG would establish their beliefs for winning glory for the motherland as courageous pioneers in the construction of an innovative country and in the great practice of building a harmonious society. He said that the enterprise would persist in caring and supporting the medical and technological progress of the motherland to compose a new chapter of win-win cooperation and innovative development together with the national medical and health and scientific communities.
More than 1,000 people, including awarded representatives, medical experts, science and technology workers as well as hospital directors from the national health sector, attended the ceremony. After the award presentation ceremony, Shanghai Municipal Health Bureau, Chinese Medical Association and YRPG jointly held a dinner banquet and presented a wonderful party.
