In order to promote the proteomics R&D in China, the 6^th Proteomics Conference was held at YRPG from July 29 to July 30. The Conference was sponsored by CNHUPO of China Biochemistry and Molecular Biology Institute, undertaken by Beijing Proteome Research Center and Fudan University, and co-organized by YRPG. Nearly 600 representatives from research institutes, universities and instrument manufacturers, etc. attended the Conference.
The opening ceremony of the Conference was held by Yang Xiaoming, Executive Chairman of CNHUPO; He Fuchu, conference chairman of CNHUPO and academician of Chinese academy of Sciences; Rao Zihe, President of Nankai University and academician of Chinese academy of Sciences; Wang Hongyang, Deputy Director of Institute of Eastern Hepatobiliary Surgery, and academician of Chinese academy of Sciences; Zhang Xianen, Director of Basic Research Division of Ministry of Science and Technology; Wang Yumin, Deputy Minister of the General Logistics Department of the PLA; Shen Yan, academician of Chinese academy of Sciences and Deputy Director of State Fund Committee of Natural Science; Ma Hongjian, Deputy Director of Biological Engineering Technology Research Center of Ministry of Science and Technology; Xu Xiegu, Section Head of the Science and Technology Ministry of Academy of Military Medical Sciences; Professor Yang Pengyuan, Department of Chemistry of Fudan University; Zhangei, Secretary of Taizhou Municipal Party Committee; Yao Jianhua, Taizhou Mayor; and Xu Jingren, YRPG Chairman.
Academician He Fuchu introduced the overall situation of the 6^th Proteomics Conference, and hoped that this Conference could provide a good chance for the experts and scholars in the proteomics domain to enhance mutual understanding; act as a platform on which the proteomics domain could communicate with and establish R&D relationships with the interdisciplinary subjects; additionally, play a positive role in promoting the development of proteomics and its research team.
Director Zhang Xianen said that the proteomics research is playing an increasingly important role in the state science and technology development plan. Deputy Minister Wang Yumin said that the domestic proteomics research, headed by Academy of Military Sciences, ranks the world first class both in talent training and R&D development.
At the co-originator of the Conference, Xu Jingren expressed his warm welcome to all attendees in his speech. He said that the biological medicine is the most promising sunrise industry, and YRPG, committed to this industry, hopes to strengthen communication and cooperation with all present academicians and experts to receive intellectual supports.
This Conference was held in the following forms: congress, seminar (special workshop), and poster. The congress with the topic of "proteomics research present situation and progress", probed into the following fields of study: the human proteome plan, disease proteomics, functional proteomics, drug proteomics, structure proteomics, protein chemistry, bioinformatics, protein modification and interaction, antibody-related technologies, micro analysis on protein groups, protein chips and new technologies of and approaches to protein groups. The seminar discussed the theme of "disease proteomics, functional proteomics, and proteomics support technologies". Domestic and international famous experts and professors in proteomics and related fields were invited to lecture on the congress and seminar.
Meanwhile there was an exhibition of the instruments, devices, and reagent on the biochemistry, molecular biology and proteomics. Such international famous instrument manufacturers as Agilent Technologies, Thermo Scientific, and Waters held the technique symposium.
The China Proteomics Conference is sponsored by the CNHUPO, aiming at promoting the academic exchange and cooperation between experts and scholars in the China proteomics field.
The Conference, which is held each year and represents the highest level in domestic, has become an important platform to bring about communication and scientific research between proteomics and related interdisciplinary subjects.
