“We sincerely hope that the cooperation between Cuba and China will soon start in the hometown of President Hu Jintao!” On May 6, Louis Herrera Martini, the State Councilor of Cuba and Dean of Cuban Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology Center, gave Xu Jingren a big hug during the visit of YRPG and the two reached a consensus to cooperate on biotechnology.
Louis and others visited the subsidiaries of YRPG in Beijing, Nanjing and Shanghai, made a thorough investigation into the headquarters of the Group in Taizhou and exchanged experience. They were deeply impressed by the garden factory and modern equipment of the Group and kept snapping the cameras to capture the beautiful scenery. “Beautiful! The scope and strength of YRPG go way beyond my imagination. We are looking forward to a successful cooperation!” He said.
Louis brought with him a possible bio-pharmaceuticalproject for the cooperation of both parties and made a preliminary discussion about the upcoming comprehensive cooperation. The two parties agreed that a working group was soon to be established and that a deep communication should be conducted in the next few months to determine the mode and projects for cooperation so that a substantial progress could be made soon.
Louis said that Cuba has very long-standing ties with China. In November, 2008, during the visit to Cuba, President Hu Jintao signed the Framework Agreement on Biological Medicine Cooperation between the two nations, which paved the way for the acceleration of bio- pharmaceutical cooperation between YRPG and Cuba. Louis was very confident with the prospects of bilateral cooperation and extended a kind invitation for President Xu Jingren to visit Cuba. He was expecting to sign the cooperation agreement at an early date, so as to be worthy of the earnest expectations of the leaders of the two countries.
Cuba is the world renowned powerful nation in the field of biotechnology, where the competition is the fiercest on a global basis. Biotechnological products, together with tourism, sugar and cigar industries have become the most importation source of foreign currency in Cuba. Cuba has successfully followed the road of independent innovation in the bio-technology development and promoted series of new technologies and products onto the world market, which can be learned by Chinese pharmaceutical companies for the development of bio-pharmaceutical technology.
