Honor reflects mission and responsibility leads to the future. On May 17, with the advent of the National Science and Technology Week, China Medical Science and Technology Award Achievement Promotion Activity with the theme of "Honor and Mission" formally started in Beijing. Wu Mingjiang, Deputy Chairman and Secretary of Chinese Medical Association, Hu Xiaojun, Deputy Director of National Office for Science & Technology Awards, President Xu Jingren and Zhao Jizong from Beijing Tiantan Hospital jointly pressed the light sensation ball to launch the opening ceremony.
Near 300 people including R&D managers from Beijing Medical Association, Peking University Health Science Center, Chinese Academy of Medical Science & Peking Union Medical College, China-Japan Friendship Hospital and the PLA General Hospital and some awarded specialists attended the opening ceremony. Before this ceremony, all attendees stood in silent tribute for one minute to mourn victims in Wenchuan Earthquake.
Since its establishment in 2001, China Medical Science and Technology Award has given away 530 award items for 7 years, which have improved the innovation ability and medical science and technology level of medical elites in China, and encouraged them to seek for greater achievements. This activity aims to boost the promotion and application of medical science and technology achievement, and apply the achievement supported by the State to disease prevention and clinical treatment so as to accelerate the development of medical science and technology and improve disease prevention level and people's health level. Chinese Medical Association will select among them subjects significant to clinics for exchange and promotion.
Wu Mingjiang, Deputy Chairman of Chinese Medical Association, gave a detailed introduction to the promotion activity scheme. He said the big-scale medical science and technology award achievement promotion activities over China showed the development level and the latest development progress of Chinese medical science and technology, and promoted achievements' transformation and local talent nurturing. Besides, these activities may improve local medical level and drive the overall progress of Chinese medical level. He expressed his appreciation for YRPG's support for China Medical Science and Technology Award selection activities.
As the only sponsorship unit for China Medical Science and Technology Award, Xu Jingren said that he hoped to promote effective communication and exchange in the medical science and technology field through these activities and create more conditions for talents and science and technology achievements to grow and progress in larger scale. He also said that YRPG would rely on independent innovation and strive to develop ethnic medicines in the practice of establishing innovative country. YRPG would make an example and play a leading role as the "National Innovation Trial Enterprise".
Hosted by the Science and Education Office of the Ministry of Health and Chinese Medical Association, and undertaken by YRPG, China Medical Science and Technology Award Achievement Promotion Activity starts from May and will end in October. It will be held in 13 provinces and cities, namely Beijing, Shanghai, Guangdong, Jiangsu, Shandong, Zhejiang, Hunan, Hubei, Sichuan, Shaanxi, Henan, Hebei and Liaoning.
After the opening ceremony followed China Medical Science and Technology Award Achievement Report Meeting. Professor Zhao Yupei from Beijing Union Medical College Hospital, the First Prize winner of China Medical Science and Technology Award, gave a report named Pancreatic Cancer Diagnosis and Treatment Basis and Clinical Research; Professor Zhao Jizong from Beijing Tiantan Hospital, the First Prize winner, gave a report named Study on Minimally Invasive Neurosurgery Technology Platform Establishment and Intraoperative Nerve Function Protection; Professor Han Dongyi from the PLA General Hospital, the Second Prize winner, gave a report named Deafness Genetic Resources Collection and Conservation and Deafness Molecular Genetic Mechanisms Basic Research and Clinical Application.
At the opening ceremony, the assessment department of Chinese Medical Association gave a report of the application and evaluation of China Medical Science and Technology Award and encouraged medical workers to apply for it actively. Zhang Minzhong, YRPG's Deputy General Manager, gave an introduction to YRPG's donations to Sichuan and returns to the Society.
