In the afternoon of February 23^rd, the award presentation ceremony of China Medical Science and Technology Award (2007), i.e. the 2007 Wu Jieping Medical Award presentation ceremony, was hosted by Chinese Medical Association and co-hosted by YRPG in the Great Hall of the People. Those attending the ceremony were He Luli, Han Qide, the vice chairpersons of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress, Zhang Huaixi, Zhang Meiying, the vice chairpersons of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, leaders of the State Food and Drug Administration and the Health Bureau of the PLA Logistic Department, etc., Zhong Nanshan, Chairman of the Chinese Medical Association, and President Xu Jingren, etc. They awarded the trophies, honor certificates, and rewards to the winners.
234 scientific achievements competed for the 2007 Chinese Medical Science and Technology Award. According to the Awarding Regulations for Chinese Medical Science and Technology Award, competing projects should first be proposed by their units. Then the ChineseMedical Association should conduct formal examination of the competing projects. Review Committee of the China Medical Science and Technology Award should conduct preliminary examination, public notification and final examination of the qualified projects after the formal examination. The sixth session of the 23^rdGeneral Council of Chinese Medical Association confirmed that the first, second and third prizes go to 80 research achievements in the fields of preclinical medicine, clinical medicine, preventive medicine, pharmacy, and traditional Chinese medicine, etc., among which the quotas for the first, second and third prizes are 9, 24, and 47 respectively.
Chinese Medical Science and Technology Prize was established by Chinese Medical Association in 2001 with the approval of Ministry of Public Health and Ministry of Science and Technology for the medical and health industry in China. It is also the state top scientific and technological award in the industry of medicine and public health. The aim is to recognize individuals and groups that have made outstanding contributions to the medical science and technology field and encourage Chinese scientific and technical personnel to mount the summit of science and technology and make more contributions. At its early stage, the award has gained active response and great support from YRPG. Until this year, YRPG has been co-holding the award presentation ceremony of China Medical Science and Technology Award together with Chinese Medical Association seven years in a row.
Through seven years’ operation, China Medical Science and Technology Award has developed into a peer review reward program that combines traditional Chinese medicine with western medicine, preclinical medicine with clinical medicine, and military organizations with ordinary ones and covers the fields of preclinical, clinical, preventive medicine, and hygienics, pharmacy, and Chinese medicine pharmacy, etc. Since 2005, National Office for Science & Technology Awardshas recognized Chinese Medical Association as the only academic body that can directly recommend programs for the national scientific and technological awards. In 2007 alone, Chinese Medical Association recommended 5 scientific research programs to National Office for Science & Technology Awards, among which 3 won the second prize of “National Scientific and Technological Progress Award”. China Medical Science and Technology Award has played a significant role in the recommendation of excellent achievements and individuals in the scientific and technological area.
Zhong Nanshan, Chairman of the Chinese Medical Association, highly appraised the selfless contributions that YRPG has made to the progress of medical technology of our country in his speech. He said that YRPG had given an exclusive support of China Medical Science and Technology Award for consecutive seven years as an enterprise, out of the best wishes for the technological progress in the medicine industry, the passion and responsibilities for the medical treatment and public health of our country, and has received the respect of numerous medical workers throughout the country and fostered a good company image of the enterprise and its products among the people. He expressed heartfelt gratitude to the support of YRPG for Chinese Medical Association and the medical and health industry and hoped that the two can work more closely together to accelerate the progress of medical and health work.
President Xu Jingren briefly introduced the development of YRPG in recent years in his speech and said that pharmaceutical companies had a bounden duty to promote the national pharmaceutical industry and uplift the medical science and technology level. With the spirit of the 17^thNational People's Congress as the guide, YRPG will adhere to scientific, innovative and harmonious development; continue to give back to the society; support national progress in medical science; promote the development of the national medical and health industry; and contribute to the provision of a harmonious, healthy and safe medical environment for the civilians.
During the session, President Xu Jingren had a cordial talk with vice chairpersons He Luli and Han Qide, reported the development, product research and technology quality to minister Chen Zhu and Director General Shao Mingli and discussed with Zhong Nanshan on the productivity of the transformation of the new drug program of Chinese Medical Association to business.
In the morning of February 23, the news conference for China Medical Science and Technology Award (2007) was held in Beijing International Hotel by Chinese Medical Association and YRPG. Chairman Zhong Nanshan, President Xu Jingren and the representatives of the prize winners accepted the interview of journalists. Leaders, experts and representatives of the prize winners watched the drama “Thunderstorm” in the Grand National Theater.
