President Xu Jingren Attended the First Meeting of the 11th National People’s Congress

The first meeting of the 11thNational People’s Congress in Beijing on March 5th drew worldwide attention. Six NPC representatives from Taizhou attended the meeting in the Great Hall of the People to discuss national affairs.
The six representatives from Taizhou are mayor Yao Jianhua, Xu Jingren, Liu Jinlan, Chairman of Jiangsu Xingda Steel Cord Co., Ltd., He Jianzhong, director of the Jiangping Road sub-branch of Post Office, Taixing, Chen Yanping, vice presiding judge of Jiangyin Park District Court of the People’s Court in Jingjiang, and Jiang Jianhua, principal of Taizhou Middle School, Jiangsu Province, among which President Xu Jingren was the only one who has also attended the 10thNational People’s Congress.
It is reported that the 157 representatives from Jiangsu Province were divided into 6 groups. The six representatives from Taizhou were in the first group with General Secretary Hu Jintao. Yao Jianhua was even the convener of the group. Yao Jianhua said, “We were all very excited with the news. We have to grasp the opportunity to report the development and the great potential of our hometown to the General Secretary, together with the implementation of Scientific Outlook on Development, the improvement of people’s livelihood, and the construction of harmonious society in Taizhou.”
Yao Jianhua said that the 6 representatives from government, enterprise, school and other basic positions, the law, education and industrial and commercial circles were burdened with the responsibilities for the 5 million people of Taizhou. They were all well-prepared before the meeting. From different angles, they put forward their own opinions and suggestions for national policies, performed their duties faithfully during political participation and did their best to bring Taizhou people's concerns to the attention of the meeting.
Representatives all came up with proposals closely related to their fields of industry and location, ranging from adjustment to administrative division, perfection of the legal mechanism, improvement of the people’s livelihood, flood and waterlog control, and construction of new countryside, etc. which will be submitted to the Congress in the following years.
Xu Jingren said that he put forward several proposals concerning policy adjustment of pharmaceutical industry for the previous five-year plan. This year, his three proposals are concerned with the enhancement of creativity in pharmaceutical enterprises to help facilitate the sound and fast development of pharmaceutical industry of our country, and the efforts that can be made to decrease the costs of medicine and improve the people’s livelihood, etc.
